Smith’s dissatisfaction with the financial state of today's music business—as well as having his young daughter Sophia Stormy to support—drove him to seek other channels for his creativity. After a chance meeting with drone pilot,Phillip Silverstein he was inspired to buy his own drone, and purchased a Mavic Pro 2 and was hooked.

“I was completely obsessed with flying the drone," says Smith. "I loved taking aerial photos and videos, and I spent a few months studying for the FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilots test. During this time,I became a member of the DJI Mavic Drone Forum, and after seeing the incredible work the pilots on that forum were producing, I thought, 'This is ridiculous—I’ll never be as good as these guys.' I decided to start an agency to find work for all the amazing pilots out there, and I founded The Droning Company. I am committed to finding the best pilots in the country, and to promote them to not only the current drone market, but also to explore new industries that have not yet embraced this amazing new technology."
